Electrical Project Manager/Estimator

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Project Manager/Estimator provides overall project management support for several small to medium projects or on one very large project supporting senior project management. The position directs and supervises activities related to contract administration, change orders, submittals, procurement, project financial projections, and schedule requirements to ensure projects are completed in a quality, profitable, safe, and timely manner.
The Project Manager is responsible for estimating projects, managing projects, identifying variances and taking corrective actions so that each project meets its timetable and exceeds its target margins and profits.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


 



  • Provide initial client contact to assess scope of work, schedule and resources necessary to successfully complete a project.

  • Work closely with estimators or estimates project to ensure that all projects have been clearly defined and turned over in detail.

  • Prepares a project hand off package to office.

  • Plan and organize a project under the directions of a Senior PM or Operations Manager.

  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of corporate policies.

  • Supervise the preparation of all change orders on the project. Negotiate all change orders on the project

  • Ensure that "Change Orders" are submitted in a timely manner and are incorporated into the billing.

  • Maintain all logs required to track the progress of the project.

  • Train and effectively supervise a Project Admin (if applicable) in the maintenance of project required tracking devices.

  • Maintain liaison with prime client and A/E to facilitate construction activities.

  • Assists in the negotiations with various vendors, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure the most competitive price, quality and timelines of products and services to be provided.

  • Monitor construction activities in conjunction with the onsite Foreman and Area Superintendent to ensure project is being built on schedule, and within budgets.

  • Monitor and control the onsite work through the Superintendent, General Foreman, Area Foreman and Foreman.

  • Assist with the timeline preparation of the project.

  • Ensure that everyone is cognizant of the time line and scheduling to ensure on time completion of the projects.

  • Maintain contact with office and Operations, General Contractor, Engineers and owner on the status of the project to ensure cost effective and timely results.

  • Enforce and ensure compliance to project contract documents and relevant and pertinent government regulations and provide the appropriate follow up.

  • Investigate any potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures within company guidelines, and under supervision.

  • Represent the company in project meetings.

  • Represent our company and the project at all necessary meetings to address any issues that might arise. Consult the General Contractor and or Owner/Operator on any new issues that have been identified. When required and needed present proposals and project outlines.

  • Supervise the preparation of any and all change quotations for presentation to the prime client. Negotiate all change quotations to a conclusion.

  • Prepare monthly costing reports under the supervision of a Senior PM or Operations Manager.

  • Assure that all billings are current before the contract due date.

  • Submit weekly Project Management Reports that include Project Metrics such as expense versus budget, labor versus budget, materials versus budget and progress of project versus the time line.

  • Manage financial aspects of contracts (progress billing, rental equipment, income/expenses) to protect the company's interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with the client.

  • Review any documentation prepared by Assistant Project Manager before submission.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:



  • ConEst and Sure Count Estimation Software (or Accubid) a plus.

  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.); Accubid and Oracle experience preferred.

  • Tactful and has professional demeanor, and ability to interact effectively with managers, employees, vendors and others;

  • Ability to identify and meet customer's needs, expectations and requirements.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational, record-keeping and follow-up skills;

  • Must be capable of managing multiple tasks under time constraints and working effectively as a team player in a professional office environment.

  • Strong persuasive and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player.

  • Must possess the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of specific variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Must be a self-starter and a problem solver.

  • Ability to understand and follow standard operating policies and procedures;

  • Ability to perform duties in a professional manner and appearance;

  • Familiarity with team-building techniques


TRAVEL:
Up to 20%
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Variable work environment; work is conducted both indoors and outdoors with varying environmental conditions.
Up to several hours per day may be spent operating a motor vehicle.
Appearance at all times must represent company image.
Occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs.
Exposure to the environments of customer facilities.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
